Standing Together on International Overdose Awareness Day at the Meriden Green
On Saturday, August 30, Wings of Hope had the honor of joining Hartford Healthcare – Rushford and many other local organizations for International Overdose Awareness Day at the Meriden Green in Connecticut (CT). This powerful community event brought together recovery resources, prevention services, and families who share the same mission: to end overdose and support lasting recovery.
The day was filled with connection and hope. Visitors explored vendor booths, received free Narcan training, and participated in activities like music, sound healing, and family-friendly recreation. The Meriden Farmers Market joined in, adding even more vibrancy to the event. Giveaways, community conversations, and the presence of every major recovery organization in the area made the day both educational and uplifting.
Why Overdose Awareness Matters
Each year, International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) serves as the world’s largest campaign to end overdose. It is a time to honor the lives lost, support those currently in recovery, and remind our communities that overdose does not discriminate. Together, we work to break stigma and spread life-saving information.
This day is especially meaningful to us at Wings of Hope because it aligns with our philosophy: recovery is stronger when it is rooted in community, accountability, and support. By standing together, we help people see that recovery is possible, resources are available, and no one has to walk this journey alone.
